Gemini AI: Google’s Innovative Model Enhances Bard Chatbot in the UK

Google has introduced Gemini AI, its latest and most advanced artificial intelligence (AI) model, to its Bard chatbot in the UK. Bard is a chatbot that can generate creative and engaging content based on user prompts. Gemini AI is the new foundation model that powers Bard, and it is designed to compete with OpenAI’s ChatGPT, another popular generative AI model. Based on Google’s most advanced AI technologies, Gemini AI is a cutting-edge AI model that can process and combine text, images, video, audio, and code.

It was first launched in Bard in the US and more than 170 other countries earlier this month, but the UK launch was delayed until now. Google said that Gemini AI will be available in Bard for other countries and languages “soon”.

What is Gemini AI and what can it do?

Gemini AI is Google’s “most capable” generative AI model to date, according to Google and Alphabet chief executive Sundar Pichai. It is also the biggest upgrade to Bard since it was released earlier this year.

Based on user prompts, it can generate text-based content, such as stories, poems, essays, code, and more. But that is not all. Google said that it will soon become “multi-modal”, meaning that it can process and combine different types of information, such as words, pictures, video, and sound.

Debbie Weinstein, Google UK managing director and vice president, said: “The UK has a long and rich history of artistic and creative achievement, from Shakespeare’s sonnets to Bowie’s ballads. The improved capabilities of Bard, powered by Gemini Pro, will supercharge that imagination. I can’t wait to see the results of a combination of the UK’s brilliant minds and Bard’s boundless possibilities.”

How does it compare to other AI models?

Gemini AI is one of the next-generation generative AI models rapidly advancing the field of AI. It follows ChatGPT’s latest release in March, which also boasts impressive generative abilities.

Google claims that Gemini AI is the first AI model to beat “human experts” in its range of intelligence tests, such as understanding, summarising, reasoning, coding, and planning. Google has fine-tuned Gemini Pro, one of the three levels of the model, to be more proficient in these areas.

Google is also working hard to further improve it for future versions, with plans to enhance its planning and memory skills and to give better responses.

Where can you find it?

Gemini AI

Gemini AI is not only available in Bard chatbot, but also in other Google products and services. For example, It is built into Google’s Pixel 8 Pro smartphones, where it powers new features such as “summarise” in the recorder app and “smart reply” in the Google keyboard, starting with WhatsApp messaging.

Google said that it will also be available across more products and services “in the coming months”, such as Search, Ads, Chrome, and Duet AI, which is Google’s AI-powered cloud assistant.

How is Google ensuring safety and ethics?

Google is aware of the potential risks and challenges that come with developing and deploying powerful AI models like Gemini AI. That is why the company said it will be building in safeguards and working “collaboratively” with governments and experts to ensure the safety and ethics of Gemini AI.

Google also confirmed that it has granted the UK AI safety institute, which was unveiled at the Government’s recent AI Summit, access to its most powerful AI models, including Gemini AI.

It is the result of a “large scale” collaboration effort between teams across Google, including Deepmind and Google Research, the company said.
